| 10:00-11:00 | Panel Discussion: “International Baccalaureate: How it affects the way foreign languages are taught and learned.” Over the past two decades, the International Baccalaureate has steadily expanded its footprint in Greece, largely through private and international schools, emerging as a strong driver of educational internationalisation and market differentiation. In this ecosystem, English functions as a core strategic asset. Beyond being the main language of instruction across most IB programmes in Greece, it operates as the gateway to academic performance, international recognition, and graduate mobility. The IB’s presence has therefore reshaped the English-language offering itself, raising expectations around proficiency, redefining assessment standards, and influencing how schools position their English departments within a competitive education market. Today’s discussion will focus on how the IB has been implemented in the Greek market, the opportunities and constraints this creates for schools, educators, and providers, and what the programme’s continued growth signals for the future of English language education as a premium, value-driven service in Greece. Panelists Jake Delatolas, Pierce College Evangelos Papadopoulos, Doukas Schools Paraskevi Barmpoutsi, DES (Interactive European School) Chrysostomos Lefteratos, Athens College Moderator: Vasiliki Lismani (Ionios School) |
